Wine pairing is an optional add-on so you will save money not doing a wine pairing.
There is not a specific dress code, business casual is the norm at bluestem.
No. But the restraunt exceptional.!!
They change their tasting menu monthly and there are prices with and without wine pairings that may change. A 5 course with wine during my visit was approximately $160 - 175
Coming from ownership here so a little bias . . . we love our food! The dining room offers an experience of either 3, 5, 7, or 10-course menu options. The bar has an ala carte menu and Happy Hour Tuesday-Friday form 4-6pm so depending on which style of dining you prefer we do have options from formal to casual to choose from. Reservations are recommended in the dining room and we do not take reservations in the bar, walk-in only. Hope you will come see us soon, cheers!
An excellent experience for a special occasion!
Lovely atmosphere. Very attentive staff. The food was great! My wife and I truly think that this was one of the very freshest, most delicious meals we've had in years! This was a great dining experience. Will definitely come back again.
What an amazing meal. My friend and I each had the five course meal, sharing the different courses. The food was excellent, well prepared and plated beautifully. Service was impeccable, and the wine pairings complemented the food very well. My favorite was the pasta. I highly recommend dining here.
American gourmet i think you would call it. Tasting menu options as well as a regular menu. We usually do the 5 course tasting menu. Was wonderful as always. Seemed to have some server staff turnover, not quite what we remembered. But overall still really great dining experience.
Best food we have eaten in KC! The wine pairings are exceptional! Service is incredible too.
Fantastic meal! We love to try new things and this was a wonderful experience. The 3 course was plenty for us. Large portions. Had some to take home for tomorrow. Sea scallops and steak were perfect, appetizers and desert were the highlights. We recommend it, when you are looking for a high quality dining experience. Art on a plate - more than great presentation - amazing taste!
Loved it! Waitress was in dire need of a day off I think ;-)
The multi-course meals are very good... But very pricey. I'm not sure I'd say my meal was "worth it". I would like to go back and just eat off the much cheaper bar menu.
Amazing culinary experience! We had the 5 course menu with wine pairing. Food presentation was perfect, every plate was appetizing and left you wanting more.
Just finished an AMAZING anniversary dinner and we officially now have a new favorite. Such an awesome experience and every bit was perfection. Can't wait to go back!
Great food, and atmosphere, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good wines, just a lot of $$$
Bluestem Restaurant is a must for people who appreciate two forms of dining. The first is for those diners who want good bar food at reasonable prices +/- happy hour. You can also order a la carte from the dining menu. Having meals in the dining area is a gourmet's delight. You have the choice of several levels of dining from 3 courses upward. The price, which is hefty, is based on the number of courses you choose. There is also available wine pairings for additional fees. The dining area is adjacent to the kitchen and although interesting to watch could be a little more romantic (subdued lighting, candles, etc) particularly for the price you are paying. The wait staff and manager are very polite, knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. It is helpful to know ahead of time that if dining on the gourmet side all members of your party have to agree on the number of courses the party will order. We had a wonderful dining experience
Best restaurant in Kansas City.Bluestem has worn the KC crown for best high end eats for awhile and there's no reason to think that title is being vanquished anytime soon. Attention to detail and expertly prepared cuisine is the focus and norm for this KC mainstay. Be prepared to pony up the pocketbook for your meal, but it's warranted... it's not a "is there a kid's menu" type of place. Each night features a chef tasting menu in which patrons can choose from 3, 5 and 7 course meals that can be accompanied with wine appropriately paired by the house sommelier. The main dining room gives off warmth and intimacy with diners getting courtside seats to the kitchen, that is open and allows all to eye chef's preparing and plating the various courses that delight.Anyone looking for an elite dining experience in Kansas City area should add Bluestem to its list of places to visit. It's truly enjoyable.
This restaurant had the best food I've had the experience of eating. Every bit worth 5 stars.
5 course meal, that you think are tiny portions, but each tiny bite explodes with flavor in your mouth. After that 3 hour experience I am so full of flavor, ambience, and conversation. Wonderful experience!
Pork chop is a must. Even if you like steak more than pork chop (that's me), get the pork chop. The hanger steak is good, but the pork chop is out of this world. Quality drinks. Helpful staff. This place just became a regular for me. (Bacon popcorn pictured. Yum).
Everything was on point. The five course with wine pairing was the way to go. Was there for an anniversary and everyone acknowledged it, made us feel special. High five.
First impression of staff/owner? wasn’t the best, kinda looked at me like I was a bug when I walked in, haha. The green salad is good and the lamb is outstanding. You can choose 3-10 courses but 3 should be enough because the portions are big. The food is presented nicely. I didn’t have a dedicated waitperson but one of the three was good (not the one I was originally assigned). It might not be a good idea to dine alone. They may forget about you. Or maybe they didn’t like the looks of me, it was late, etc. who knows? For a place with a tasting menu and a James Beard nominated chef this place is very cheap...
Love the lounge, the food and the drinks! The dining room experience was also great. We always have a terrific time with our friends at Bluestem. Can’t wait to go back!
Amazing experience with a 7 course meal. Each course was delightfully unique and delicious. We were worried we might be hungry with the small plates but we were all quite full and satisfied by the end.
Super delicious food but expensive.
Thank you for another AMAZING dinner at Blue Stem! Our server Kristen was so wonderful and helpful. She made our visit even better. For the record...don’t leave without having the Apple upside down pie! This place truly stands out as one of the most special dining experiences of my life, and I don't just mean in Kansas City. The Garreltses know what they're doing. It was expensive, almost crazily so for this town, but truly worth every penny. I need to try out the (more reasonably priced) lounge at some point ...
Recently visited KC. Myself and guest chose the 5 course meal with wine pairings. The service was outstanding. The sommelier was knowledgeable and attentive. The open kitchen is great to see in action. It is not a large venue which seems by design to offer a personal dining experience. Every course was special. The dessert was nothing short of amazing. I wanted to lick my plate (frowned upon, or I may have) It is a James Beard awarded establishment and well deserved. Bravo to the owners.
Super hip bar and restaurant with great food and service. The tartare was a little bland, but I really enjoyed the shishito peppers and the melon soup was better than I could have imagined! It’s a very ambient, chill atmosphere - not too loud at all - which I really liked.
The food is fantastic and the service is outstanding. The price point is just way too high for me to ever go back. Worth a try if you want to experience extremely fine dining.
I am usually not a very adventurous eater but tonight I wanted to try some new things with my family. We had the seven course dinner and everything I had was absolutely amazing. The chefs have an amazing way of making every flavor explode and be on the brink of too much without going over the line.
Very good food! Not sure if it is worth the price.
Ok, I will preface this review by saying I am NOT an adventurous diner. My spouse is a meat and potato guy. So, when we set eyes on the menu, we were both concerned. This is one of those places, though, that you go in knowing to trust the chef. The combinations and flavors were impeccable. I promise... you won’t go wrong here. Service was very attentive and kind and the food?... AMAZING.
Terrible experience. My husband and I went there for a wonderful dinner date night. The sommelier (who was incredibly young and inexperienced) barely acknowledged us or provided any insight into the wine pairings. After spending a significant amount of money for the meal, the hostess "invited" us to leave before we even got our check when the restaurant was not even close to full. We emailed the restaurant five times to resolve the matter and have never received a response. If we could give the restaurant zero stars, we would. Everyone was rude and the food was sub-par. We've experienced way better service and food qualify at Applebee's at every visit. I'm embarrassed that I fell for the supposed quality that this restaurant provides.
I cannot say enough good things about Bluestem! We had an absolutely marvelous experience. We've spent some time in Michelin star restaurants and this is definitely on par with them. The food was edible art and the wine pairings were perfectly on point. Make a resy now! You will not be disappointed! Great place for casual dining, just drinks, or a special meal with or without wine pairings. The food is excellent!!! The service is consistently fine. The dining experience will not disappoint you. Highly recommended!!!
Wonderful 10-course tasting menu. Do it. Cocktail program is great, too.
Most of the food was great! We got a little confused at first because 3 different servers came up to our table to take a drink order and tell us they'd be with us shortly. My boyfriend's first drink was very bland but they happily switched it out. The parsnip soup, carbonara, and lamb were all delicious and presented beautifully. My boyfriend loved the pork belly as well. I'm being a little hard on the rating, I may have expected slightly better because of the James Beard Award but the appetizers and dessert didn't blow me away (banana bread was overcooked and too hard to cut through). Overall, really enjoyed it but had higher expectations than what I got.
I had the pleasure of indulging in one of the greatest meal experiences at any restaurant.
I ate here 2 years ago with my mom and had one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. Since then I've been able to go to a few Michelin star restaurants and the food at Bluestem is on par with those places, if not better. The drinks at the bar are phenomenal. The atmosphere is romantic and cozy. I can't wait to return and have another meal here.
One of the best restaurant in Kansas City for date. We made appointment for dinner menu, and we had a chance to try all the food in the menu! Very uniquely and delicious
What a treat! I've been wanting to experience Bluestem for years. The food, presentation, paring, and experience is unsurpassed in all the KC area, possibly the entire midwest. What an amazing experience. We had a four course meal with suggested wine paring for each course. Every dish was impeccably presented, timed perfectly, paired deliciously. If your looking for fine cuisine, this is your place. However, if you are simply looking for a fantastic single course meal and drink, Bluestem is really quite affordable. I would give this place the best possible recommendation I can give!
What an amazing experience. We did the 10 course/w wine pairing and it was a taste rollercoaster of pleasure. Thank you for a wonderful evening. Kudos to the service and chef. 10/10 will come back.
Great meal. Wonderful service.
Amazing food. A must eat and highly recommend the wine pairings.
Amazing experience every time! The staff, the sommelier, the chef. Great for a fancy, fun dinner on the town.
Had a table right next to the kitchen. It was marvellous watching them prepare everything. We didn't order anything instead asked the chief to surprise us and it was amazing.
Great fine dining experience! Staff was friendly and eager to share knowledge about the food & wine. Food was exceptional.
Always a delight to visit Bluestem. I feel truly blessed to live in a town with such an incredible restaurant.Every meal, every wine, every pairing, and every service is always complete perfection. If I had to choose, I'd recommend the vintage ribeye, it's the essence of perfection.Do go and enjoy, you won't be disappointed!
I love Blue Stem for happy hour. The dining room is amazing but crazy expensive. Great cocktails and good apps that are reasonable.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Bluestem. The entire staff made us feel special. And the food was, of course, spectacular. THANK YOU!
They totally remodeled this place to spacious and modern. Great upscale restaurant with great food and drinks. As long as your wallet is great to match. 3oz wine for $7? Happy hour 6 oz for 9 oz costs $14,Who heard that?
Absolutely remarkable experience. Careful attention to detail and impeccable ingredients. A true highlight in Kansas City dining and better than a Michelin star restaurant we ate at recently in Chicago.
Great way to kick off the 31st year of my life. “Let thy food be thy medicine, and they medicine be thy food”. Item Nine shout it from the rooftops!!! 🗣 God said it was good! 🦅
Possibly the best meal I've ever eaten
